Where does the name "Dreamer" come from?

Debra grew up on a farm, the oldest of six children in a Christian family.  One of Debra's childhood nick names was "Dreamer" because her friends thought she always had crazy ideas and dreams.  Her favorite subjects were science and history.  She read a lot about inventors and liked to invent gadgets of her own.  She would often stare up at the clouds to dream and the stars to watch constellations and orbiting space craft.  She loved her time with farm animals, taking photographs, playing in the barns and fields and exploring in Girl Scouts.

Debra started her first business at age 12 (babysitting).  She learned in Sunday School that "Deborah" was a hard-working leader and that in Hebrew her name  means "bee".  In High School called herself "The Sewing Bee" when she added sewing (she still uses the sewing machine her dad bought her to help her get started) and housecleaning to the list of things she would do to earn money.

She learned how to clean house and work hard early from her dad and mom on their beef farm and to clean thoroughly from her grandfather on his dairy farm. Continuing to do housecleaning to work her way through college, Debra added waitressing/short-order cook at a country club, kitchen helper at a college cafeteria and helping her great-aunt with dinner party service to her list, and continued with the childcare as a counselor at a day camp, and sewing work.

In college, Debra won a marketing contest, naming the breakfast sandwich of an Indiana fast food restaurant chain called "The Lure".  She came up with "the Sunrise Sandwich" at a time when the only famous breakfast sandwich was McDonald's new Egg McMuffin. She also realized a childhood dream to be on radio by broadcasting her first radio program at the college station WVUR beginning at sunrise on Easter Sunday.

Debra realized her name D. Riemer, put together sounded like "Dreamer" and promised herself that someday she would name her business by that name in honor of the people and events that formed her.  In 1987 she made good on that promise.
